“Hunger is not an issue of charity. It is an issue of justice.” By Jacques Diouf.
Food is vitality and livelihood, the means of livelihood for our existence. It is in abundance, but it is enjoyed to its fullest by the luckiest. While being privileged to eat nutritious and savoury food, it makes me question how unfair it is that some can’t even enjoy its dainty while others relish it to the core daily. Unfortunately, most people don’t take this issue seriously.
But why did I choose art to represent this issue? Because I believe a picture truly does speak a thousand words. The main goal of these artworks is to depict this well-known issue to the audience and make them think “I want to help them”. I intended to make these artworks simple as possible yet bold to catch the attention of the viewers, which I mainly achieved using the bold strokes.
Water colours and an ink pen were the only materials used. Originally these works were created for a school project in which I depicted an issue I am intrigued by, with a mode of expression I am experienced with.
